The 2014 Apple Festival Parade was held in downtown Ellijay on Saturday, October 18th. It was a beautiful day for the parade and a large crowd of spectators gathered around the square to view it. It was a wonderful parade with many participants including local businesses, youth groups, many Shriner units, lots of floats and local dignitaries. The 2014 parade grand marshal was Deany Brady, author of "An Appalachian Childhood", who grew up in Gilmer County and currently resides in Northern California. The Apple Country Auto Club, Inc held its annual Fall Apple Classic Car Show on October 11th 2014 at the River Park Ball fields in Ellijay, GA. All vehicles - Antiques, Street Rods, Muscle Cars, Bikes, Trucks, & Rat Rods. The entries were judged & voted on by vehicle owners. All proceeds benefit the Gilmer Food Pantry, High School Scholarships, & White Christmas.

The 2014 Apple Festival in Ellijay, GA was a success in spite of the rain. Though the sun did come out for short periods the intermittent showers did not deter the enthusiasm of the festival attendees. According to Paige Green, President of the Chamber of Commerce there were still 21,500 festival goers. The vendors appeared to be happy with their sales and all participates appeared to have a great time.

Last Friday, the Dragons hosted the Bruins of NW Whitfield at Dragon Stadium in a region showdown. The Dragons looked to even up their region record at 1-1 after losing a close game to Ridgeland the week prior. Before the ball game, the JYSA football players, coaches, and cheerleaders were recognized in front of a packed house as Dragon Nation would envoke a pink out in honor of breast cancer awareness month. The Bruins would win the toss and would differ to the 2nd half giving the Dragons first crack at putting points on the board. [Full Story »]
