The new Pickens County Board of Commissioners says it will cut an additional $1 million from its 2013 budget.
During its first work session this morning as a new board, the BOC said its goal is to cut an additional $1 million from the budget by the end of January.
“Towards the end of the month, we’re looking at some budget amendment,”
Commissioner Chair Robert Jones said. District One Commissioner Jerry Barnes added that the cuts are necessary because the revenue the county is currently bringing in is not sufficient. In an interview with Mr. Barnes this morning, FYN asked what departments would have their budgets cut. Barnes said he was not at liberty to say, adding that he was still waiting to hear back from some departments. Also, Barnes suggested that a budget amendment by the month-end would be ambitious, but confirmed that this was the goal.
